22nd WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME

Today is the 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time. As ever before, the holy mother church realizing the difficulties and obstacles we encounter daily in our efforts to respond fully and positively to the clarion call from God, encourages us to rise above both the internal and external obstacle, and reluctances in order to offer ourselves wholly to Christ who himself resisted all obstacles and reluctances in order to offer himself as a living, holy and fitting sacrifice in order that we might be salvaged from death unto life.

20th WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME

“How rich are the depths of God – how deep his wisdom and knowledge…To him be all the glory. Amen!” It is on the note of this amazing and beautiful outburst of joy from our second reading today that we begin our reflection on this 21st Sunday of ordinary time. In a special way the church enjoins us to recognize, reverence with “sacred awe”, praise, and glorify the Sovereign, the All Powerful and Wise Lord. It is only when we know him (as much as he chooses to reveal himself to us though), that we can respect his ordinances, appreciate his greatness, burst out in amazement and declare to others who he really is as Paul and Peter did today.

SUNDAY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Today we celebrate one of the oldest feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In his Munificentissimus Deus of November 1, 1950, Pius XII solemnly declared that: “The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.” Pope Pius XII cited various Church Fathers to trace the longstanding tradition of the belief of the Assumption.

Although the solemn definition may have been at the midpoint of the twentieth century, the belief in the Assumption of our Blessed Mother exemplifies the dynamism of revelation and the Church’s ongoing understanding of it as guided by the Holy Spirit.

19th WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME

On this nineteenth Sunday of ordinary time, the Church joyfully reminds us that Jesus our Savior is always close to us. He calms the storms of our life. He lifts us from the depths, and restores our peace. The presence of the storm, and all that it represents definitely make us confused, and afraid in life. Thus, it equally deprives us of our peace.

REFLECTION ON WOMEN’S MONTH

The continuation of the reflection on the institution of society called WOMAN….

A daughter, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a grand mother and if you wish- a great grand mother. These are the various forms of social identities the woman enjoys in the life of the family and society. We are by nature social beings, beings through others for other. We do not belong to ourselves but we belong to others. A woman is by her very raison d’etre a creature oriented towards humanity. You belong to humanity, you are ours.
